And So the Story Begins...




Trevor was a little boy

Who came to stay one day.

He brought along a chocolate cake

And a balloon for him to play.


So here you have it - the tale finally begins. An immaculately groomed 5 (?) year old boy, Trevor, knocks at the front door of his aunt’s house. We can dimly see the FBC through the frosted glass. Trevor is carrying a cake and holding a balloon. 

Alex did the artwork for this, and I have to say I really like the design elements. He has captured a certain innocence in the scene, too, but (as you'll see in the next post) I don't think he ever got to grips with the darker side of the story. You can't really see the FBC through the glass, and it certainly gives no sense of menace or danger. This is the first time we see the Cat, and it has to make a big impression on the reader. 

Here's an idea I had for a way to show the FBC for the first time, through the frosted glass of Auntie Sal's front door:
