Because he couldn’t run.
But it was all a hopeless task –
The cat had got his tongue!
The (piss poor) illustration for this spread shows the FBC from the point of view of inside Trevor's mouth. Imagine this publicity shot from Ice Age 3 (below) with the little harmless mammal replaced by the FBC, looking very nasty indeed, and the dinosaur teeth replaced by human ones. If you see what I mean.
So here's the cat, just about to leap into the boy's mouth, presumably to tear his tongue out. Ouch. All in all it looks like Game Over, maaaaan, Game Over! (Warning: strong language!) Bill Paxton, we salute you.
